The Asian Short Film Fund (ASFF) today announced its three winning projects for 2026.
Jointly launched by HKIFF Industry under the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) and NOWNESS ASIA, a subsidiary of Meta Media Group, the initiative opened for submissions in April this year.
Following an online pitching session with ten shortlisted finalists in late July, the jury selected three standout projects: How to Eat Tomatoes (by Suchana Saha), Society of Bones (by Ananth Subramaniam), and We are But Butterflies (by Jing Yi). Each project will receive up to USD 35,000 in production support. Additionally, the winning filmmakers will travel to Hong Kong for one-on-one mentorship from internationally acclaimed filmmakers Aditya Assarat, Oh Jung-Wan, and Yeh Ju-Feng. The completed short films will be showcased at the 2027 HKIFF Summer International Film Festival.
香港國際電影節協會（HKIFFS）與超媒體集團旗下創意平台 NOWNESS ASIA 攜手推出的「亞洲短片基金」（Asian Short Film Fund, ASFF），今日公布2026年度三個優勝入選項目。
七月底與十個入圍團隊進行線上提案後，由雅狄也阿薩拉（Aditya Assarat）、吳姃琓（Oh Jung-Wan）及葉如芬（Yeh Ju-Feng）組成的評審團最終選出三個項目，分別是蘇查娜薩哈的《How to Eat Tomatoes》、阿南特蘇布拉曼尼亞姆的《Society of Bones》及景一的《We are But Butterflies》。三個項目團隊將前往香港，接受評審團委員的劇本指導，更可獲最高美金35000元製作資助，完成的短片將於2027年夏日國際電影節展映。

Suchana is a filmmaker based in Kolkata and Mumbai. She is a freelancer and has worked with independent filmmakers and production houses. Her film Maa Tuki (2018) won 13 awards and was selected for 51 International film festivals including VGIK, IIT-Bombay, Simorgh, Dharamshala, and Beijing. Priyo Ami (2022) was awarded at NFDC Film Bazaar, Emami Art India and elected for Busan International Film Festival, Animafest Zagreb, Annecy, and International Film Festival Rotterdam. It was also shortlisted for the BAFTA Student Awards.

Ananth Subramaniam is a Malaysian filmmaker of Tamil descent whose work explores themes of identity and spirituality through post-colonial Tamil experiences. In 2025, his film Bleat! became the first Malaysian short selected for Cannes, premiering at the 64th Critics’ Week and winning the Queer Palm. It also received the Student Jury Prize at Clermont-Ferrand and screened at MoMA’s New Directors/New Films. His latest short Holy Crowd (2026) premiered at the 2026 Cannes Critics’ Week. He's developing his feature Pray to the Thunder, with support from Berlinale's Talents Tokyo and Critics' Week Next Step program.
馬來西亞泰米爾裔導演，作品常以後殖民脈絡下的泰米爾經驗為出發點，探討身分與靈性等議題。2025年短片《Bleat!》成為首部入選康城影展的馬來西亞短片，於第64屆影評人周首映並獲酷兒棕櫚獎。該片亦拿下克萊蒙費宏國際短片影展學生評審團獎，並入選MoMA「新導演／新電影」展映。最新短片《Holy Crowd》（2026）同樣於2026年康城影評人周首映。現正開發首部劇情長片《Pray to the Thunder》，獲柏林影展東京新銳營與影評人周Next Step計劃支持。

Jing Yi is a screenwriter and director born in Xinjiang, China. His debut feature, The Botanist (2025), won the International Jury Award for Best Film in the Generation Kplus competition at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival. Screened at over 30 festivals worldwide, including Beijing, Tokyo, Busan, and Shanghai, the film has garnered 10 international awards. These include Best Director and the FIPRESCI Prize at the 49th Hong Kong International Film Festival, plus a Special Mention (International Critics' Week) and the NETPAC Award at Cairo.
生於新疆，編劇、導演。首部電影長片《植物學家》（2025）獲第75屆柏林影展新生代Kplus競賽單元國際評審團最佳影片獎，並在北京、東京、釜山、上海等30餘個國際電影節上映，獲得第49屆香港國際電影節最佳導演獎與國際影評人聯盟獎、開羅國際電影節國際影評人周特別提及獎與亞洲電影促進聯盟獎等10項國際獎。
