The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS) has unveiled the first 17 HAF In-Development Projects (IDP). These projects, currently in the scriptwriting and financing stages, were shortlisted from 414 submissions across 38 countries and regions, with Asian entries comprising 82% of the total. The submissions included projects from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Macau, Mainland China, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The 2026 selection highlights compelling storytelling and diverse cultural perspectives, covering genres from comedy and fantasy to suspense and romance. The programme features work by emerging directors such as Sasha Chuk, Story Chen Jianying, and Emma Kawawada, as well as projects by established filmmakers who are mentoring as producers, including Stanley Kwan, Anthony Chen, and Shiina Yasushi.
These developing projects will be showcased at HAF24 from 17 to 19 March at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, as part of the HKIFF Industry Project Market, alongside the 30th Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART). Additional shortlisted In-Development projects, focusing on genre and animation, along with Work-in-Progress (WIP) projects, will be announced in the coming weeks. |
