To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF), an exhibition will be held at the Hong Kong City Hall Exhibition Hall from 1 to 12 April.

Titled 50 and Beyond: The Hong Kong International Film Festival Golden Jubilee Exhibition, the special event will showcase HKIFF's achievements over the past 50 years in promoting cinematic art and fostering cultural exchange. Admission is free.

Albert Lee, Executive Director of The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS), highlighted the importance of holding the exhibition at City Hall, the venue for the festival's inaugural edition in 1977. "Since then, HKIFF has become one of Hong Kong's cultural highlights of the year, earning a reputation as one of Asia's longest-running and most prestigious film festivals," Mr Lee stated. "We hope the exhibition acts both as a retrospective and a forward-looking vision, reaffirming our original mandate as we move into our second fifty years."

The exhibition will showcase rarely seen photographs of master filmmakers, renowned directors, and film stars who have appeared at the festival over the past five decades, alongside archival documents, posters, publications, and replicas of artefacts that demonstrate the festival's evolution and revisit key moments and unforgettable scenes. Highlights will include recorded interviews with filmmakers sharing their experiences at HKIFF, as well as a short tribute compilation by the acclaimed art director and editor, William Chang, guiding the audience on an unforgettable cinematic journey through timeless classics.

HKIFF50 will be held from 1 to 12 April. HKIFFS will reveal further festival highlights in the upcoming weeks, with the full programme available in early March.
